Wish you all an Exciting & Happy New Academic Year!
Nehru Science Centre (NSC) - a hub of science popularisation in the Western Zone- has become one of the most visited places in the city. The Centre is also now on itinerary of educational trips of almost all the schools in the region and Mumbai Darshan tourist buses. This achievement of NSC could be attributed to its innovative programmes, exhibitions and facilities which provide visitors immersive and memorable experiences in science. It always attempts to make people aware about current and relevant issues through interactive exhibits and temporary & permanent exhibitions. The Children Science Park of the Centre sprawled over an area of 6 acres is unique of its kind in the city of Mumbai. The Centre has attracted more than 7.75 lakh visitors during 2011-12 comprising about 30% students in organised groups.
Science Centres have clearly understood that in the post-academic era of science, the impact of science & technology on everyday life is ever increasing. In the new world, where the pressure of rapid population growth, depleting resources, and ecological damage are matter of concern for all, what needed is better diffusion, adaptation, and use of the new technologies. This requires raising the awareness of population and creating an environment receptive to technology. In this fast changing world citizens require more scientific information, and Science Centres have been and are professional and sophisticated media for an apt science communication. Science Centres contribute to effective science education for young people and play an important role in public engagement, understanding and appreciation of science & technology. The new exhibition on
is one such attempt to make people aware about the science behind the immensely complex system of climate and causes, concerns & consequences of changing climate. It interweaves a multi-faceted story into a single theme making children and adults to incorporate into their daily thinking about the issues. The Centre also has several other galleries on the popular and relevant topics of science and technology.
NSC organises several extension education activities especially for school students and teachers with an aim to supplement school science education.
The most popular science show attracting huge number of audience,
is presently screening a film titled
The documentary features the land of the world's mightiest river in a "you-are-there" film experience. It is a beautifully crafted docudrama about a region that has always been the obsession of explorers, scientists and anthropologists.
