National Conference on Technology Vision 2035

National Conference on Technology Vision 2035 was jointly organsiedby Technology Information, Forecasting & Assessment and Council(TIFAC), National Centre for Science Communicators(NCSC) and National Council of Science Museums(NCSM) at the Centre on 18th April, 2016. During the inaugural session, Dr. A P. Jayaraman, Vice Chairman, National Centre for Science Communicators gave the opening remarks followed by the remarks on Objectives for the proposed National Discussion by Dr. Anil Kakodkar, Chairman, TIFAC. Dr. Prabhat Ranjan, Executive Director briefed about the overview of the Technology Vision 2035 Documents which was recently brought out by TIFAC. During the day sessions on Education, Information and Communication Technology, Energy, Health and Industry were organized by the galaxy of the resource persons. About 250 participants attended the conference.


Commemoration of Anniversary of the World’s First Cosmonaut’s Flight

The 82nd Birth Anniversary of the World’s First Cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin was commemorated at the Centre on 11th April, 2016 in collaboration with the Consulate General of Russian Federation in Mumbai. On the occasion, diplomats, dignitaries and other invitees paid homage to World First Cosmonaut at the Centre.


World Earth Day

2 open house quizzes for students and general public on “All about Earth” and science film shows on ‘Global Warming’ and ‘Jal Yodhya’ were organized at the Centre to mark the World Earth Day on 22nd April, 2016. About 250 visitors including students, teachers and general public attended the programmes.


Workshop of Robotics

3 batches of Robotics preparatory workshops for different age group students (Elementary, Junior High, Senior High & College group) were organized at the Centre during 11th- 15thand 18th– 22nd April, 2016. In elementary group, 24 students participated and made4 projects, namely Bumper Car, Base ball battle, Claw striker and WRO challenge project Clean road to school. In Junior High group, 22students participated and made Explorer, Ball hunter, Line follower and WRO challenge Waste sortage projects where as in Senior High & College group, projects like Fork lift, Line follower, Obstacle remover and  WRO challenge project Recycling plant were made by 12 participants.In all the 3 batches, competitions on the basis of WRO challenge were also conducted for the participants. In all 58 students participated in the Robotic workshop.


Science Sparkle Workshop

As part of vacation creative science workshop, science sparkle workshop for young students of standard 3rd to 5th was organized at the centre during 28th – 30th April, 2016.During the workshop students were exposed to various fun filled hands-on activities with straws, papers styrofoam cups, etc.65 students participated in the workshop and completed 8 projects.



Visit of MTDC Officials

As a part of inclusion of visitors’ attraction in Mumbai for Mumbai Darshan, a city tour of MTDC Officials was organized by the Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC), in the tour Shri Paraag Jain, Managing Director, Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC), Shri Satish Soni, Director of Tourism, Govt. of Maharashtra& JMD, MTDC& other officials of MTDC visited the Centre on 22nd April 2016. In the MDTC Mumbai Darshan, Nehru Science Centre, Mumbai will also be included. They were given the guided tour of different galleries and various facilities of the Centre.



Civil Defence Orientation Programme

The Centre organised one-day session on Civil Defence Disaster Management for the officers, staff members & security personnel at the Centre on 30th April, 2016. During the programme Shri S. B. Bagat, Dy. Controller of Civil Defence, Area II, Mumbai and his team give powerpoint presentation and practical demonstrations on civil defence including first aid, fire-fighting, disaster management during man-made and natural calamities etc.



Package Tour

During the month, 11 package tours were organized for about 830 students and teachers. They were given the Guided tour of the galleries, Science Shows and Human Anatomy Shows were also organized.
