Regional Science Seminar (Mumbai Region)
Mumbai Regional Level Science Seminar on the topic “Industrial Revolution 4.0 – Are We Prepared” was organised at the Centre on 13th August, 2018 in collaboration with the Office of the Deputy Director of Education, Mumbai. 11 students from 11 schools of Mumbai Region participated in the programme and presented a talk on the given subject. 2 students, Miss Pushya Mistry of Children’s Academy, Ashok Nagar, Kandivali and Hosang Shukla of Dr. S. Radhakrishnan Vidyalaya, Malad were selected as 1st and 2nd Prize winner respectively for the state level science seminar.150 students and the teachers witnessed the seminar.
Workshop for Teachers on Innovative Experiments in Physics
Centre in collaboration with Vigyan Prasar, Delhi organised4days workshop at the Centre on “Innovative Experiments in Physics” for tribal teachers of Maharashtra during 1st – 4th August, 2018. Shri Manish Kumar, Science Communicator, Vigyan Prasar, Delhi conducted the workshop single headedly. Starting from science communication to various concepts of basic physics like light, force, motion, pressure, energy, optics, , thermodynamics, sound, buoyancy etc. of high school level were effectively taught, explained and demonstrated by doing simple innovative experiments using very low cost materials. The workshop was very enthusiastically enjoyed by all the 96 teachers as they got the innovative approach of teaching.
Workshop for Teachers on Chemistry
Centre in association with Bombay Association of Science Education (BASE) and Royal Society of Chemistry, London organised 2 days workshop at the Centre on Chemistry Teaching on 10th& 11th August, 2018 for Chemistry teachers. Various aspects of chemistry like balancing chemical equations, studying different types of chemical reactions, acid–base concept map of various indicators, etc. were taught by using different methods such as card sorting, ppt, TARSIA & hands–on experiments. The workshop was conducted by Ms. Vimla Oak, from Royal Society of Chemistry, London. 50 teachers from various schools of Mumbai region participated in the workshop and learnt how to move from rote learning to more active learning.
Workshop on Design Thinking & Innovation
Workshop on Design Thinking & Innovation was organized at the Innovation Hub of the Centre on 17th August 2018. It was conducted by Prof. D.S. Chavan, Visiting Faculty, NMIMS Engineering College for 40 under privileged students. The resource person interacted with the students and presented different aspects of creative thinking and also showed some innovations done by students to the participants. Further hands-on activities were conducted on designing & building tallest and stable tower using straws & connectors.
Innovation Hub Sessions
During the month of August, 7 sessions of the Integrated Science and Robotics were conducted. The students discussed different aspects of the permanent and electromagnets followed by hands-on activities. Other topics such as surface tension, different forces in nature, etc. were also discussed in interactive sessions. In all 44 students attended the sessions.
Exposure visits to the Innovation Hub:
To create awareness among students and teachers about the facilities available at the Innovation Hub, exposure visits to the innovation hub has been organised. During the month 3197 students and teachers were given exposure to the hub.
The Centre has organised a SCI-Birthday programme on 15th August, 2018. 50 kids, parents along with their host participated in the programme. The participants were taken to various facilities of the Centre and special shows.
Mobile Science Exhibition (MSE) in Kolhapur District
During the month Mobile Science Exhibition on Curriculum Based was organized at 15 schools of Kolhapur district. Along with the exhibition science film shows, science demonstration lectures were also organised for the students, teachers and general public.
Science Film Festival
Science Film Festival was organised at the Centre from 20th August, 2018. During the month, 3 film shows were conducted for the school students for a duration of one hour each in the auditorium of the Centre. 350 students viewed the films selected by the school.
During the month, 35 package tours were organized for 5765 students and teachers. They were given the guided tour of the galleries. Science shows, 3D shows and Science on a Sphere shows were also organized.
