1.STEM Story Telling Festival
STEM Storytelling Festival was held on 13th January 2018 at Nehru Science Centre. It was a collaborative effort of Nehru Science Centre, National Centre for Science Communicators, Indian development Foundation and NES and VSB Group of Educational Institutions. Professor S.Sivadas, veteran Science litterateur known as the Asimov of India with 180 science books delivered the keynote address.  Six story tellers presented their narratives on different topics such as Neurochemistry, Wind velocity Fragrance and, Desalination technology. A number of stories crafted specifically for the festival was received. A conclave of Principals from four schools following four different systems of education converged and examined in depth the scope for STEM stories in and out of classroom in a program tilted  In Class room or Out of Classroom,  guided by Master Communication Strategist Abhay Mokashi.
In a freewheeling conversation with Vithal Nadkarni and Professor Barve, Dr.A.Jayaraman explored the science of Science storytelling and its narratology. At the end of the festival, the need for such Festivals was clearly recognized and a dedicated organization was deemed necessary for the development and diffusion of STEM stories. Realizing that pure art stories are to also to be blended to the ensemble, STEAM was conceived. An academy of STEAM Stories was created

2.National Science Drama Festival
National Science Drama festival 2017-18, an annual event of National Council of Science Museums, Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India was successfully organized at Nehru Science Centre Mumbai during 18th - 20th January 2018. In this festival 10 best dramas selected from 5 zonal level science drama contests held at Delhi, Kolkata, Guwahati, Bengaluru and Mumbai were invited. The main theme was Science and Society with sub themes as Digital India, Cleansing of rivers, Swachh Bharat - role of science and technology and green energy. The 10 dramas were evaluated by experts from four zones for best Actor, Best Actress, Best Director which were won by Assam, Rajasthan, Kerala and Karnatka respectively. 100 participants made the event a success by their powerful dramas containing definite messages. It was followed on the next day by a special invited drama played by specially abled children who neither can speak nor listen. It got standing ovation from all participants. It was played under the direction of Founder of Natyashala Charity trust who also conducted the workshops for participants. The event was inaugurated by Shri Amrit Gangar, a noted cinema historian while Dadasahib awardee and Padamvibhushan Adoor Gopalkrishnan was chief guest in valediction cum prize distribution of NSDF 2017-18. A souvenir was also published and released in the inaugural programme.

3.Interschool Science Quiz Contest(Semifinal Rounds)
During the month, 2 Semifinal rounds of Interschool Science Quiz contests were conducted in which 32 students from 8 schools participated. 10 sets of questions related to science and technology, Mathematics, general knowledge and on gallery exhibits were asked. 4 Team were selected for the final round to be held in 3rd week of February, 2018. The main theme was Science and Society with sub themes as Digital India, Cleansing of rivers, Swachh Bharat – role of science and technology and green energy.
4.Drone workshop
A Drone workshop was organised at the Centre for the members of  Innovation Hub on 26th January, 2018. The workshop was conducted by Team Screw Driver of NMIMS, Mumbai. 30 students attended the workshop. They learnt about the basics and assembled the drone. Finally they learnt the flying techniques and tips and tested the assembled drones for flight. It was enjoyed by all.

5.Virtual Visit to the LIGO, Livingston USA
Centre in collaboration with LIGO, Livingston, USA had organised a Virtual Visit to The Laser Interferometer Gravitational-wave Observatory (LIGO), Livingston Observatory, USA for school students at the centre on 30th January, 2018 at 10:00 AM. This virtual visit provided a unique platform to students and teachers to directly interact with experts from the Control Centre of the LIGO, Livingston, Observatory, USA in real time. Simultaneously, students and teachers also had a virtual experience of the LIGO’s facility and control centre during their interaction with experts. About 400 students and teachers attended the programme along with media representatives and scientists.

6.National Mathematics Day Celebration
National Mathematics Day is being celebrated at the Centre during 30.01.2018 to 01.02.2018 by organizing various programmes as follows:

 Multi modular workshop on Origami
 A Special  multi modular workshop on Origami was organised at the Centre on 27th January, 2018 from 4.00 pm to 6.30 pm. Shri Anand Vishwanathan of Rachana Associates, New Delhi was the resource person for conducting the workshop.  During the workshop various aspects of origami were discussed and presented through the PowerPoint presentation.  Hand-on activities of paper folding for making different articles were given to the participants. 40 people participated in the workshop including education and art section staff of NSCM.

 On 30th and 31st January, 2018, 2  Film shows Titled ‘Ramanujan: Letters from an Indian Clerk’ were organized in the auditorium of the Centre. About 600 students, teachers and general public attended the film shows. The film shows were followed by a Written Quiz on Mathematics in which 125 students participated. They were asked to solve 25 questions based on maths and puzzles.
 On 31st January, 2018 popular talk on the topic ‘Mathematics  in day to day life was organised at Centre. The talk was delivered by Dr. Mangala Gurjar of Centre for Excellence in Basic Sciences, Mumbai. About 250 students attended the lecture.

 Origami Exhibition cum Workshop
 As a part of National Mathematics Day celebration, Origami Exhibition cum workshops were organised for the students and general public at the Centre in collaboration with Origami Mitra on 31st January and it will continue on 1st February, 2018 as well. There are 60 different paper models on display for the visitors. About  400 school students and teachers visited the exhibition  on 31st January, 2018. Simultaneously, 2 origami workshops were also conducted during the exhibition on 31st January, 2018 in which 65 students participated. 
 Workshop on Fabrication of teaching aids
 Workshop on Fabrication of teaching aids was also organised on 31st January  and will continue on 1st February, 2018 too. 10 B.Ed. college students participated and fabricating the teaching aids baed on mathematics today.

7.Story Telling Session
As part of Innovation hub and National Mathematics Day celebration, The Centre organized a Story Telling Session for school students. It was conducted by Ms Shailja Shaily – a free lancer story teller. She narrated the life and works of the eminent world famous mathematician Srinivas Ramanujan. It was very interesting, interactive and activity oriented. 22 students participated and enjoyed in the story telling session and learnt a lot about Srinivas Ramanujan.

8.Outreached  programme at Jawahar
NSCM participated in Vigyan Utsav at Jawahar, rural area in Thane district on 31st January 2018. It was organised by Marathi Vigyan Parishad, Thane. Team of NSCM conducted 2 science shows on Fun with Liquid Nitrogen and Fun with Science. About 800 students, teachers and general public attended the shows.

9.Lunar Eclipse viewing programme
The Centre also organised Lunar Eclipse viewing programme on 31st January, 2018 from 6.00 pm to 9.00 pm.  The Centre put up 3 telescopes and projection arrangements for the viewers to witness this spectacular astronomical phenomenon. About 400 visitors visited the Centre and viewed the eclipse. In fact it was a triple visual treat for viewers as they could witness Lunar eclipse (Blood Moon), Supermoon and Blue Moon, a rare opportunity.
