12th Asian Congress of Oral & Maxillo Facial Radiology & 5th Green Health Conference
An international conference was organized at Nehru Science Centre, Mumbai from 6th to 9th September 2018. The conference was supported by Council of Scientific & Industrial Research’s premiere institute National Environmental Engineering Research Institute, Ministry of Science & Technology; National Council of Science Museums, Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India; Maharashtra University of Health Sciences; Asian Academy of Oral & Maxillofacial Radiology apart from the Green Health Foundation.
As a part of this conference, a PowerPoint presentation contest was organised on 7th September, 2018 for students from grade 9 to 12. 14 teams (each comprising of 3 students & 1 escort teacher) participated in the contest. PowerPoint presentation on environmental health, climate change, public health, Swatchh Bharat Abhiyan etc were presented by the participants. Top 5 teams were selected by the  panel of international experts for prizes.

Hindi Pakhwada
Hindi Pakhwada was celebrated at the Centre during 14th – 28th September, 2018 by organizing various programmes as follows for students, public and the staff members:

1. Hindi Translation Contest : Hindi Pakhwada was launched on Hindi Diwas i.e. 14th September, 2018. It was followed by English to Hindi Translation Contest for the Officers and staff members in which 12 officers & staff members participated.

2. Hindi Essay Contest: On 19th September, 2018, Hindi Essay writing Pratiyogita for the staff members was organised. The topic of the contest was “Digitization – A path towards corruption free India”. 11 staff members / Officers participated in the contest.

3. Hindi Karyashala: A Hindi  Karyashala was organized at the Centre on 26th  September, 2018 for the Officers and Staff members. Shri Prakashchandra Thakur, Dy. Director Raj Bhasha Vibhag, Film Division, Mumbai was the resource person for the workshop. 25 Officers and staff members participated in the Karyashala.

Hindi Pakhwada was culminated on 28th September, 2018 with the poetry recitation session and cash prizes were distributed to the winners of different contests. 

Observance of Swachhta  Pakhwada
The Centre observed Swachhta Pakhwada on the theme ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ during 16th – 30th September, 2018 by organizing various educational activities and programmes for the students, staff and general public, as follows. The programme initiated with Swachhata  Pledge & Shramdan by the officers and staff members of the Centre on 17th September 2018. 

1. Screening of short films on ‘Swachh Bharat Mission’
Film shows on ‘Swachh Bharat Mission’ were organized daily in the reception area of the Centre by screening the short films titled Swachh Bharat Abhiyan slogan by Brahmakumaris, Clean India – New India short film, Swachha Bharat – silent short film, Swachhta Anthem for the visitors including student, teachers and general visitors during 16th – 30th September, 2018. More than 800 visitors saw the short films.

2. Drop your slogan contest
Drop your slogan contest was organized at the Centre for the visitors from 16th – 26th September, 2018. During the period, 91 visitors have dropped their slogans in the drop box. Prizes will be given to the winners of this contest.

3. Open house quiz
On 22nd September, 2018, 2 open house quizzes for visitors and organized school groups were organized at the Centre. Questions related to Swachh Bharat Mission were asked to the individuals and prizes were given to the visitors on the spot for the correct answers. About 300 students and general visitors participated in the quiz.

4. Slogan writing contest
Slogan writing contest on the topic ‘Swachh Bharat Mission’ was organized on 25th September, 2018 in which 10 students participated.

5. Painting contest
Painting contest for 3 different categories i.e. for the students upto 4th std, std. 5th to 7th and std. 8th to 10th was organized on 26th September, 2018 on the topics Clean India, Beat the Plastics and Swachh Bharat Mission respectively in which 11 students participated.

6. Street Plays
On 27th September 2018, 3 shows of the street play on the topic “Swachh Bharat Clean India’ were organized for students, teachers and general public at KEM Hospital, Govt. colony Bandra and Bandra Railway station respectively. The street play was performed by A N Enterprises with support from Shri Aastha Mahila Bachatgat, Mumbai . About 1100 students and public watched the street plays.
7. Popular Talk
On 28th September, 2018  popular talk on the topic “Swachh Bharat and Waste Management” was  organized at the Centre. Shri Subhash Dalvi Officer on Special Duty, Solid Waste management, BMC, Mumbai delivered the talk.

In addition to the above programmes, regular cleaning of the premises, galleries, exhibit development labs, administration area, science odysee, etc. was carried out during the Swachhata Pakhwada. Flex / banners of Swachh Bharat Mission with SBM logo & slogans were also displayed in the premises of the Centre. On 17th September 2018 Swachhata Pledge was taken by all officers & staff members of the Centre.

Wild Wisdom Quiz 2018
The Maharashtra State Finals of WWF-India's Wild Wisdom Quiz 2018 was held in association with Nehru Science Centre, Mumbai at the Centre. The State finals for the Junior and Middle Levels were conducted on 21 September 2018 which saw attendance of more than 200 enthusiastic students who participated in an elimination round followed by an on-stage Quiz. The ecstatic winners were from: Centre Point School, Amravati Road, Nagpur (Junior Level) and Bhavan's Lloyds Vidya Niketan, Wardha Nagpur (Middle Level); the winners from Bhavan's Lloyds Vidya Niketan will represent Maharashtra in the National Level of the Quiz on 4 October, 2018 at Delhi. In all about 300 students, teachers and parents participated in this State final.

‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ – cleanliness mission at KEM Hospital
The Centre in collaboration with KEM Hospital and JJ School of Arts has organised a KEM Cleanliness Mission ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ as a part of Swachhata Pakhawada in the premises of KEM Hospital during 27th September to 2nd October 2018. The programmes and activities started on 27th September 2018. National Service Scheme Coordinators and students from M.D. College, Xavier’s Institute of Communication and Astha Mahila Savings Group enacted Street Plays on various locations in the Hospital premises. For spreading cleanliness awareness a march past was also organised to mark the event. Participating students also planted some trees in the Garden of the Hospital. A film show was also screened for the patients on ‘Swachhata hi Seva’. Around 200 students were present on the occasion. Around 1000 people witnessed the whole programme.
On 28th September, a street play was organised in KEM premises by JN Khalsa College, Matunga. Girls students from ITI Dadar were present on the occasion. A cleanliness awareness march past was also organised by these students. Around 50 students were present the occasion. Around 800 people witnessed the programme.

On 29th September, a street play was enacted by KEM School of Nursing students in the premises of KEM Hospital. The street play was followed by a cleanliness awareness march past by these students. Around 100 students were present the occasion. Around 1200 general visitors took an advantage of the programme.

Inauguration of Inter-school Annual Science Quiz Contest & Elimination Round
The Centre in active collaboration with Rotary Club of Bombay Pier and Rotary Club of Bombay Queen City organised a Written Elimination Round of Interschool Annual Science Quiz Contest for English and Marathi Medium Schools on 26th September 2018 at the Centre. The programme initiated with an Inaugural function graced by Rtn Paresh Shah, Former President, Rotary Club of Bombay Pier and Rtn. Rakesh Agarwal, President, Rotary Club of Bombay Queen City. Dignitaries from both the Rotary Clubs were prominently present on the occasion. The Inaugural function was followed by a Written Elimination Round in which a team of two students each from 29 Marathi & 94 English medium Schools took part. In all about 450 students, teachers and parents attended the programme.

Innovative Thinking Workshops
During the month, 4 orientation sessions of the Innovative Thinking workshop were organized for the school students at Innovation Hub of the Centre. Students and teachers were briefed about facilities and the activities of the Innovation Hub. Hands-on activities such as making a cup helicopter, fish in the bowl and dancing snake, etc. were given to the participants. In all 197 students and teachers participated in the workshops. Problems and puzzles on out of the box thinking and their solutions were also studied by the students.

Exposure visits to the Innovation Hub
To create awareness among students and teachers about the facilities available at the Innovation Hub, exposure visits to the innovation hub were organised. During the month 1072 students and teachers from 14 schools were given exposure to the innovation hub.

The Centre has organised a SCI-Birthday programme on 15th September, 2018. 25 kids their parents along with the host participated in the programme. The participants were taken to various facilities of the Centre special shows. They were also given hands-on activities.

Mobile Science Exhibition (MSE) in Kolhapur District
During the month Mobile Science Exhibition on Curriculum Based was organized at 6 schools of Kolhapur district. Along with the exhibition science film shows, science demonstration lectures were also organised for the students, teachers and general public.

Science Film Festival
Science Film Festival was organised at the Centre from 20th August 2018 till 5th October, 2018. During September, 6 film shows were organised for the school students for duration of one hour each in the auditorium of the Centre. 933 students viewed the films selected by the school.

Package Tour
During the month, 22 package tours were organized for 2958 students and teachers. They were given the guided tour of the galleries. Science shows, 3D shows and Science on a Sphere shows were also organized.
