Programmes and Activities organised at Nehru Science Centre, Mumbai during September 2017
Hindi Pakhwada was celebrated at the Centre during 14th – 28th September, 2017 by organising various programmes and contests for students, public and the staff members.
a) Hindi Anuvad Pratiyogita
On 14th September, 2017, to commemorate Hindi Divas, Hindi Translation contest for the Officers and staff members was organized.
b) Hindi Bhashan Pratiyogita
On 18th September, 2017, Hindi Bhashan Pratiyogita for the staff members was organised. The topic of the contest was “Bullet Train in India” (Essential or not). Staff members and Officers participated and expressed their views on the given topic. Majority chose to speak in its favour.
c) Popular Science Lectures
Popular Science Lecture on the topic ”Diabetes- Simplied” was organized on 21st September, 2017. Dr. Mihir Raut, Dialectologist, Nanavati Hospital, Mumbai delivered the lecture. 78 staff members attended the lecture.
d) Panel Discussion
Nehru Science Centre in collaboration with N S Vahia Foundation, Mumbai organised panel discussion on “Defeating Blue Whale Challenge - How to identify vulnerable children in the Class” to create awareness on this issue amongst the teachers and potential stakeholders on 22nd September, 2017 in its auditorrium. Dr.Vihang Vahia, Dr Alka Subramanyam, Dr.Kersi Chawda and Dr. Suyog Jaiswal, all noted psychiatrists of Mumbai, were panelists in the discussion. The event was primarily targeted for teachers but also opened to the interested parents, councilors and head of institutions. It was attended about by 255 participants.
e) Hindi karyashala
Workshop on Hindi on the topic “ Karyalayin Kamkaj Mai Hindi ka Saral Upyog” was organized at the Centre on 23rd September, 2017 for the Officers and Staff members. Shri Vinod Sharma, Dy. Director Implementation, Rajbhasha, Western Region, Govt. of India was the resource person for the workshop.
f) Hindi Essay writing contest
On 26th September, 2017 Hindi essay writing contest was organized on the Topic “GST:- Benefits and Challenges”. About 10 staff members participated in the contest.
g) Hindi Poem Recitation
Hindi poem recitation contest for the Officers and Staff members was organized at the Centre on 27th September, 2017. 11 Officers and Staff members participated in the programme.
Inauguration Sound & Hearing Gallery
Newly renovated ‘Sound and Hearing’ gallery was inaugurated at the Centre on 15th September, 2017. Shri Atul Tiwari, Eminent Art Director & Screenwriter inaugurated the gallery. About 280 students, teachers and media people attended the inaugural function.
World Ozone Day Celebration
World Ozone Day was celebrated at the Centre on 16th September, 2017 by organizing Sit & Draw Contest for middle and high school students on the topic “Protecting Ozone Layer”. Written Science Quiz on Our Planet Earth was also organized.
Wild Wisdom Quiz
The Maharashtra State Finals of WWF-India's Wild Wisdom Quiz 2017 was held in association with and at Nehru Science Centre, Mumbai on 18th September 2017. The State Finals saw the best quizzers from 77 schools across Maharashtra showcasing their quizzing talent. Students from Euro School, Airoli won the Junior School Level while participants from Centre Point School, Katol Road, Nagpur won the Middle School Level. These winners will represent Maharashtra State at the Wild Wisdom Quiz - National Level which will be held in Delhi on 6 October, 2017.
Observance of Swachhta Pakhwada (16th – 30th September, 2017)
The Centre observed Swachhta Pakhwada during 16th – 30th September, 2017 by organizing various educational activities and programmes for the students, staff and general public, the details of which is as follows :
a. Screening of short films on ‘Swachh Bharat Mission’
Film shows on ‘Swachh Bharat were organized daily in the reception area of the Centre for the visitors including students, teachers and general visitors during 16th – 30th September, 2017. More than 1000 visitors per day have seen the short films.
b. Street Plays
On 23rd September, street plays on the topic “Humara Bharat Swachh Bharat” were organized for students, teachers and general public. The street play was performed by Natyashala Charity Trust, Mumbai. About 500 students and public watched the street plays and enjoyed a lot.
c. Mumbai Regional Level Science Drama Contest
Mumbai Regional level Science Drama was organized at the Centre in collaboration with Office of the Dy. Director of Education, Mumbai on 26th September, 2017. 9 plays from 9 schools of Mumbai region participated in the contest and enacted the plays on various topics centered around the main theme of Swachh Bharat. In all 72 students participated in drama contest. About 260 students witnessed the dramas.
d. Puppet Show
Puppet show on Swachh Bharat was organsied at the Centre on 27th September, 2017. The show was performed by M/s. Arihant Events, Dombivli. About 300 students watched the puppet shows performed in three parts to reach out more groups.
e. Popular Science Lectures
On 29th September, 2017 popular science lecture on the topic “Life Style Management” was organized at the Centre. Dr. Rahul Chhabria, Consultant Cardiologist, Jaslok Hospital Mumbai delivered the lecture.
The talk was followed by the valediction and prize distribution. Dr. Rahul Chhabria also gave away prizes to the winners of various contests. 200 students, teachers and staff members attended the lecture.
In addition to the above programmes, regular cleaning of the premises, galleries, exhibits, administration area etc. was carried out during the Swachhata Pakhwada. Flex / banners of Swachh Bharat Mission with SBM logo & slogans were also displayed in the premises of the Centre. On 16th September 2017 Swachhata Pledge was taken by all officers & staff members of the Centre.
Outreach programme at Virar
8 Science shows on Liquid Nitrogen and on Fun Science were oganised at Taramai Vartak Vidyalaya, Virar on 27th September, 2017. About 2000 students including teachers attended the science shows. Workshops on Hands on activities were also conducted for the primary school group students.
During the month, the Centre extended the facility of package tour on advance booking for 36 schools. Apart from Science Odyssey and 3 D shows, they were given guided tour of the galleries, science show including spark theater & human anatomy show. About 4817 students and teachers availed these facilities.
