Innovative Thinking Workshops
During the month, 4 orientation sessions of the Innovative Thinking workshop were organized for the school students at Innovation Hub of NSC, Mumbai. Students and teachers were briefed about facilities and the activities of the Innovation Hub. Hands-on activities such as making a cup helicopter and testing different materials like soap solution, soda water, vinegar, lime water, etc. for acidic and basic nature by using red cabbage, turmeric powder and flowers as natural indicator. 142 students and teachers participated in the workshops. Problems and puzzles on out of the box thinking and their solutions were also studied by the students.
Launching of a new large format Science film in Science Odyssey facility
New large format film titled “America Wild: National Parks Adventure” was launched at Science Odyssey facility of the Centre on 10th August, 2017. Interaction session via Skype with the Director of this film Mr. Greg MacGillivray, USA, was organised. After the interaction session, the film was launched for the public. The film takes the audiences on the ultimate off-trail adventure into America’s awe-inspiring great outdoors and untamed wilderness. It also takes viewers soaring over red rock canyons, hurtling up craggy mountain peaks and into other-worldly realms found within America’s most legendary outdoor playgrounds, including Yellowstone, Glacier National Park, Yosemite, the Everglades and Arches. About 400 people attended the inaugural function.
Mumbai Regional Level Science Seminar
Mumbai Regional Level Science Seminar on the topic ‘Swachh Bharat : Role of Science & Technology Promises & Challenges’ was organized at the Centre in association with the Office of the Dy. Director of Education, Mumbai on 19th August, 2017. 08 students from Mumbai Region participated and expressed their views on the given topic. 02 students were selected for the Maharashtra State Level Science Seminar to be organised in 3rd week of September, 2017. 100 students and the teachers witnessed the seminar.
Mobile Science Exhibition (MSE) in Satara District
During the month Mobile Science Exhibition on the theme Curriculum Based was organized at 11 schools of Satara district. 12593 visitors including students, teachers and general public visited the exhibition. In addition to this, a total of 14 science film shows and 11 science demonstration lectures were also organized which were attended by 1400 and 7080 visitors respectively.
Science Film Festival
As a part of Science Film Festival, a film show was organized for the school students for a duration of one hour on 29th August, 2017in the auditorium of the Centre. 31 students viewed the films selected by the school.
During the month, 11 package tours were organized for 1841 students and teachers. They were given the guided tour of the galleries, science shows and human anatomy shows were also organized.
