World Autism Awareness Day
Centre in association with Om Creation, Mumbai observed World Autism Awareness Day on 2nd April, 2018 on the theme Empowering women and girls with autism. Various programs, viz. Screening of Award Winning Films on Behind the Glass Wall, Panel Discussion by eminent people in the field of Autism, Hands on activities on art and craft (painting, clay modelling etc) were organised. Exhibition of articles/paintings made by the Children with Autism was also on display for the visitors. Special visit to Vintage Car Exhibition - 'Heritage on Wheels' was also arranged for these children and their parents. In all about 265 children and parents participated in the programmes.
Visit of London Museum Delegation
A curatorial meeting cum presentation was organized on 11th April 2018 with SGM group London, curator and education team of NSCM to understand the brief details about the exhibition on "Superbugs". A meeting was also held with Dr. Ashok J. Tamhankar, PhD, Dip. Rad. Phy. National Coordinator for Indian Initiative for Management of Antibiotic Resistance (IIMAR) who interacted and discussed in detail about the subject matter. Team SMG had conducted the visitor's survey with a target group, visited the Innovation Hub of the Centre and interacted with the general visitors in the gallery. Director NSCM had also given contextual input for the development of exhibition and the available resources for content research.
Commemoration of Anniversary of the World’s First Cosmonaut’s Flight
The Consulate General of Russian Federation in Mumbai in collaboration with the Centre commemorated the 84th Birth Anniversary of the World’s First Cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin on 12th April, 2018. On the occasion, diplomats, dignitaries and other invitees paid tribute to the World’s First Cosmonaut.
16th Batch of the Innovation Hub has started at the Centre on 14th April, 2018 for the quarter April to June, 2018. 31 students have enrolled for this batch. During the month, 3 sessions were conducted in which the students were given out of the box thinking puzzles and problems and hands on activity in physics & chemistry.
Observance of Swachhta Pakhwada
Swachhta Pakhwada is being observed at the Centre from 16th – 30th April, 2018. During the period, Swachhta pledge was taken by the officers and the staff members which was followed by Shramadan by the staff members. Also every day cleaning of the different areas in the premises of centre like exhibition galleries, science park area, workshops, office, toilets and other facilities of the centre were also undertaken. In order to create awareness among the people, Flexs, Banners and Posters were also displayed in the premises. 2 popular talks on the topics ‘Solid Waste Management’ and ‘Health & Hygiene’ were also organised on 24th & 25th April, 2018. The talks were delivered by Shri Subhash Dalvi, Officer on Special Duty, SWM, MCGM and by Mrs. Shubhangini Joshi, In-charge, Dept. of Food Technology, P. V. Polytechnic, SNDT, Women’s University. 120 parents attended the lectures. 2 shows of Street Plays relevant to Swachha Bharat Mission were organised on 28th April, 2018. The shows were enacted by Salaam Bombay Foundation, Mumbai. About 400 visitors witnessed the plays. Another street play on Swachh Bharat Mission to be enacted by Natyashala Charity Trust, Mumbai will be organised on 29th April, 2018. During the period open house quizzes, slogan writing contests, short films on Swachha Bharat Mission were screened daily for the visitors.
Science Workshop at Science and Innovation Activity Centre (SIAC), Warananagar, Kolhapur
A blend of Hands-on activities in Science, Science Demonstrations, workshop on Innovative Thinking was organized at the SIAC, Warananagar, Kolhapur on 19th April 2018 for school students. Students made simple toys such as Equatorial Sundial, Write with Light, paper helicopter and also prepared slime. During the session on Innovative Thinking, the students were given the basic understanding of What is Innovation. Through various activities they were exposed to important traits of innovators such as out-of-the-Box thinking, Power of Collaboration and adding different dimensions to the thought etc. During the session they were also given some problems and were asked to find innovative solutions to the same. Students also enjoyed a presentation on many Jugaad innovations. To bring the excitement about science, science demonstrations were conducted for them. In all 45 students participated in the workshop.
Outreach programme at Aurangabad
Centre participated in an outreach programme at International Centre of Excellence in Engineering and Management, Aurangabad on 22nd April, 2018 by organising Mobile Science Exhibition and 4 science shows. In all 1250 visitors including students and teachers participated in the programme.
Earth Day was celebrated at the Centre on 22nd April 2018 by organising film shows on earth, open house quizzes, science shows and slogan writing contest. In all 200 visitors participated in the celebration.
Science Sparkle Wor
As a part of Creative Science Workshop, Science Sparkle workshop for the small kids of std 3rd to 5th was organised at the Centre during 23rd – 25th April, 2018. 60 students participated and made 60 sets of 11 projects, like paper rockets, paper helicopter, cup helicopter, Flying fish, oscillating woodpecker, straw sprinkler, woodpecker, etc. by using pencils, papers, straws, etc.
Orientation Cum Selection Camp for International Astronomy Olympiad
Orientation Cum Selection Camp(OCSC) for 23rd International Astronomy Olympiad (Jr) to be held at Colombo Sri-Lanka, at the Centre from 23rd April to 11th May, 2018. 15 students participated in the camp.
Outreach programme at PIB, Mumbai
On the occasion of Earth Day Celebration, a Popular Science lecture on ‘Planet under Pressure’ was delivered by Shri Saket Singh Kaurav, Curator, NSC, Mumbai at Press Information Bureau, Mumbai on 26th April, 2018. 18 IMPCC (Inter-media Planning & Coordination Committee) Members attended the lecture.
