India’s first-ever, global mega - Science Exhibition, ‘VigyanSamagam’, was on display at Nehru Science Centre, Mumbai for the visitors upto 7th July, 2019. During the month, 5010 visitors visited this prestigious Science Exhibition. A special interview was aired on AIR – YUVAVANI on 5th July 2019 about the event.
The Centre organised a SCI-Birthday programme on 1st July, 2019. 50 kids, parents along with their host participated in the programme. The participants were exposed to various
Facilities of the Centre including the special shows.
New batch of the Innovation Hub started at the Centre on 13th July, 2019 for the quarter July- September, 2019. 48 students have enrolled for this batch (19 for Integrated Science & 29 for Robotics). During the month 3 sessions of Integrated Science were organised in which the students were given out of the box puzzles and problems and hands-on activities. 3 sessions of Robotics were also organised.
Exposure visits to the Innovation Hub
To create awareness among students and teachers about the facilities available at the Innovation Hub, exposure visits to the innovation hub has been organised. During the month 1572 students and teachers from 15 schools were given exposure to the hubs.
Moon Landing Day
The moon landing day was celebrated at the Centre on 19th & 20thJuly, 2019 by organising film shows in the auditorium of the Centre. 2 films titled ‘First Man’ and ‘8 days on Moon & back’ were screened for the visitors on 19th & 20th July respectively. Science On Sphere shows were also exclusively organised on theme ‘The Moon’ for school students and general public on the occasion. In all 5 film shows and 17 Science On Sphere shows were conducted. There were about 1236 visitors for film shows and 1039 visitors for SOS shows.
One popular science lecture was organized on 20th July, 2019. Dr.Paresh Vaidya, Retd. Scientist, BARC, Mumbai delivered the lecture on the topic ‘Journey of Apollo 11’. 253 visitors including students, teachers and public attended the lecture. Sit & Draw competition on the topics “First Man to Moon” and “Chandrayaan - the India’s pride” was organised for the students of std. 6th to 8th.
74 students participated in the contest and drew beautiful paintings on the given topics. The film ‘First Man’ was screened in collaboration with US Consulate general, Mumbai where as ‘8 Days’ was screened with the support from Sony BBC Earth.
Symposium for teachers on International Year of Periodic Table
NSCM in collaboration with Bombay Association of Science Education, TIFR (BASE) organised a two day symposium on 19th & 20th July 2019 on the theme Periodic Table and was part celebrating 150 years of Periodic Table. The symposium was held exclusively for chemistry teachers of Mumbai & suburbs to commemorate International Year of Periodic Table. 48 teachers were present for the workshop.
Screening of live coverage of launching ‘Chandrayaan-II’
A special programme was organised to show the live coverage of launching of India’s Space Mission to Moon ‘Chandrayaan – II’ and ISRO’s films on Chandrayaan-II. The programme was well received by the print and electronic media. Around 130 students, general public and media persons attended the event.
Mobile Science Exhibition
Mobile Science Exhibition (MSE) unit of NSC, Mumbai on curriculum based started in the schools of Ahmednagar district from 19th July, 2019. During the month, MSE programmes were organized in 5 schools of Ahedmadnagar district. Apart from MSE, science demonstration lectures and science film shows were also organized.
Popular Talk on ‘Mission Shakti’
NSCM in collaboration with Bombay Association for Science Education (BASE), TIFR and Vidnyan Bharati, Kokan Prant organised a Popular Talk on 27 July 2019 on topic ‘Mission Shakti’ delivered by Dr.U.Rajababu, Programme Director ‘Air Defense’, Defense Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), India. A 4 minute film was also screened for the audience on ‘Mission Shakti’. The lecture was attended by 106 School and College students.
During the month, 22 package tours were organized for about 2800 students and teachers. They were given the guided tour of the galleries, science shows, 3D shows and Science On a Sphere shows were also organized.
Visit of underprivileged children
During the month, 263 underprivileged children from 2 NGO’s visited NSCM. Facilities like Science Odyssey and SOS were specially organised for the children. These children were also provided with science books.
